Abstract
Myobrace (TRAINER for Kids; T4KTM, Myofunctional. Research Co, Australia) is a prefabricated myofunctional orthodontic appliance recommended for use in Class II division1 malocclusion patients who have bad oral habits such as mouth breathing, tongue thrusting, inappropriate tongue position, thumb sucking and so on. The goal of this study is to investigate the effect of Myobrace (T4KTM) on expansion of upper airway for the treatment of Obstructive Sleep Apnea Syndrome (OSAS) in children and adolescents. Myobrace (T4KTM) has a soft texture and a small bulk - these advantages lead to an increase in the compliance rate of young patients. This presentation¡¯s aim is to analyze the clinical efficacy of Myobrace (T4KTM). The analysis is based on the result of regular follow-up on Class II division1 malocclusion patients
who have been treated using Myobrace (T4KTM) in the Sanbon Dental Hospital of Wonkwang university.
We could identify significant increase in upper airway dimension when patient used Myobrace (T4KTM). Through
follow-up, we could see patients who were treated using Myobace (T4KTM) showing patterns of variable stability and
relapse after removal of the device. Female patients in the mixed dentition are sensitive to esthetic factors, so the use
of Myobace (T4KTM) will be a benefit. Consequently, a follow-up check is important for deciding the timing of fixed
orthodontic treatment to prevent a large degree of relapse after treatment using Myobace (T4KTM). Moreover, additional
research is necessary to evaluate the effect of training with Myobace (T4KTM) on muscular function compared with
the control group without interceptive orthodontic treatment.
